Jayne Bigelsen

Chief Policy Officer, Women’s Justice Now/Now-NYC

As Chief Policy Officer at Women’s Justice NOW / NOW-NYC, Jayne Bigelsen works to eradicate human trafficking and gender-based violence through survivor-centered education and systemic change.  Previously, she was Vice President of Legal/Advocacy at Covenant House New York (CHNY), where she founded its first anti-human trafficking department, supervised its legal response to the migrant crisis, created and led a youth leader advocacy program, and co-led a large-scale study on the relationship between human trafficking and youth homelessness.  Prior to her work at CHNY, Jayne was the Director of Legislative Affairs at the NYC Bar Association for eight years, where she advocated for NYS’s first anti-trafficking law and a safe harbor law for child victims of commercial sexual exploitation.

“In our world today, no one should have to sell their body to meet basic needs of survival like food and shelter.  Yet it happens every day.  Youth shelters across the United States are full.  When someone can’t find shelter, pimps and traffickers are ready to pounce.  To truly end human trafficking, we must ensure no one seeking shelter or services is ever turned away.”
