President and CEO, Global Black Economic Forum
Alphonso David
Alphonso David is an attorney, law professor, policy advisor, and President and CEO of the Global Black Economic Forum (GBEF). For close to two decades, he has worked on groundbreaking litigation, legislation, policy initiatives, and advocacy to advance the rights of disadvantaged communities, including Governor Andrew Cuomo’s legislation to strengthen human trafficking laws. Mr. David joined the New York Governor’s Office in 2011, became Counsel to the Governor in 2015, and served for four years as chief counsel and principal legal advisor. He later served as President of the Human Rights Campaign from 2019 to 2021, the first person of color to hold that role. At GBEF, he works to expand economic opportunity, workplace and marketplace equity, and policy advocacy for marginalized communities globally.
“Although we have achieved some success, there is significant work to be done to eradicate the cancerous plague of human trafficking. Collectively, we must be relentless in our fight to protect the voiceless and the disenfranchised. Our obligation is not simply a legal one, but also a moral one.”
