A lifelong advocate for gender and racial equality, David Dinkins was the 106th Mayor of New York City. As mayor, he was known for his innovative approach to criminal justice, focusing on reducing crime, and creating opportunities for children. After leaving office, he served as a Professor of Professional Practice at Columbia School of International and Public Affairs for almost 27 years. He died on November 23, 2020, at age 93.
