Ingibjorg Gisladottir, former Director of ODIHR and an international election-observation and women, peace and security expert, has more than 40 years’ leadership experience working on human rights and women’s rights, including serving as the United Nations Women’s Regional Director for Europe and Central Asia, and Country Representative to both Turkey and Afghanistan. Early on in her political career, Ms. Gisladottir was a founding member of the Women’s Party in Iceland, which laid the foundation for Iceland’s remarkable progress in gender equality. She thereafter served as Mayor of the City of Reykjavik, Member of Parliament, Chairperson and Leader of the Social Democratic Alliance, and Iceland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs.
