The Late Agnes Gund

Philanthropist; Art Patron; Collector; Arts Educator; Social Justice Advocate 

Agnes Gund was a philanthropist, art patron, collector, and advocate for arts education, women’s equality, human rights, and social justice.  She founded Studio in a School and served as President and President Emerita of the Museum of Modern Art and Chair of its International Council.  Ms. Gund’s board memberships also included the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Foundation for Contemporary Arts, and the Foundation for Art and Preservation in Embassies.  In 1997, Ms. Gund received the National Medal of Arts from President Bill Clinton.  In 2017, she founded the Art for Justice Fund, committing proceeds from the sale of a Roy Lichtenstein painting to support artists, advocates, and organizations working on criminal legal reform.  Ms. Gund died in 2025 at age 87.
