Marlene Hatcher

As a mother of five and an accounting supervisor at a dialysis company, Marlene Hatcher’s descent into prostitution was unintended.  Domestic violence and depression led her to crack cocaine addiction and her disappearance into the streets of Chicago. Her drug habit, supported through prostitution, spiraled into trafficking, kidnapping, rape, and violent beatings.  Ms. Hatcher was able to turn her life around after being incarcerated, and eventually assumed the role of Senior Project Manager/Human Trafficking Coordinator and Policy Analyst/Victim Advocate for the Cook County Sheriff’s Office of Public Policy.  In this role, Ms. Hatcher developed strategies to assist women exiting “the life” and spearheaded anti-trafficking efforts, including the National Johns Suppression Initiative. Since her retirement, she has continued public policy advocacy as a Shared Hope International Policy Consultant, a SPACE International U.S. Representative and Ambassador-at-Large, as well as a speaker and trainer.

“And what does the Lord require of you?  To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.”
