U.S. Representative Hakeem Jeffries is an American politician and attorney who has served as House Democratic Leader and House Minority Leader since 2023.  Currently in his seventh term, he has been the U.S. Representative for New York’s 8th Congressional District since 2013 and served three terms as a member of the New York State Assembly from 2007 to 2012.  Representative Jeffries was unanimously elected House Democratic Leader in 2022 and again in 2024 for the 119th Congress, making him the highest-ranking Democrat in the House.  Born and raised in Brooklyn, Representative Jeffries graduated from SUNY Binghamton, earned a master’s degree from Georgetown University and a law degree from NYU, and clerked for the Honorable Harold Baer Jr. of the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York.
