Survivor of Sex Trafficking; Resident Coordinator and Peer Specialist, Dawn’s Place

Anne Marie Jones

A survivor of sex trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation, Anne Marie Jones is now a Resident Coordinator and Peer Specialist at Dawn’s Place, a non-profit organization committed to improving the lives of women trapped by, or at risk for, commercial sexual exploitation, by providing them with housing, trauma recovery services, vocational training, and other services.  As a Peer Specialist, Ms. Jones supports residents throughout their recovery process, using a program she specifically tailored to help those exiting prostitution.  Given her own experience as a trafficking survivor, as a former resident of Dawn’s Place, and as a graduate of Philadelphia’s First Judicial District’s Project Dawn Court—a treatment court for women who have been sexually exploited and prostituted—Ms. Jones brings a unique and valued perspective to her work.  She has dedicated her life to advocating against the exploitation and trafficking of women and girls and supporting them through their recovery, and recently co-authored a book entitled A Shield Against the Monster: Protecting Children from Human Trafficking.

“I now control my own life.  Free to dream the dreams of being happy, joyous, and free.”
