Imam Khalid Latif
Director and Co-Founder, Islamic Center of New York City (ICNYC)
Khalid Latif is the Director and Co-Founder of the Islamic Center of New York City (ICNYC) and Director of Campus Support with Muslim Campus Life. He previously held the position of Executive Director and Chaplain (Imam) of the Islamic Center at New York University. In 2005, Imam Latif was appointed the first Muslim chaplain at NYU. In 2006, he was appointed the first Muslim chaplain at Princeton University. In 2007, his position was fully institutionalized at New York University, and so he committed himself to that institution and the building of a Muslim life institution. After 20 years of service there, Imam Latif left the Islamic Center at New York University to focus on leading ICNYC, which began Jummah services in 2025 while continuing its build-out. A staunch advocate of human rights and social justice, Imam Latif has been recognized and awarded for his writings, sermons, and activism, including forced marriage in the Muslim community and work with Pillars of Peace on domestic and gender-based violence.
