“Luz”
Survivor of Sex Trafficking
Luz’s childhood in Puerto Rico was traumatic. Not only was she sexually molested by her father, but from the age of seven to fifteen, she was regularly sold for sex by a neighbor to his brothers and friends. During what should have been her 9th grade school year, she stayed at home, locked away in her bedroom, trying to protect herself from this abuse, and thereafter she fled to a different city. But a neighborhood pimp constantly pursued her, forcing her to relocate still further away, in New York City. When she was 25, she married a man who also turned out to be abusive, badly beating her and making her a prisoner in their home. Now 55 years old and still struggling with intense emotional and psychological pain, Luz is working hard to heal.
“What happened to me will continue to haunt me and cause me deep pain for the rest of my life. My childhood was taken away from me, and PTSD continues to torment me as an adult. Please don’t allow this to happen to anyone else. Johns and pimps must be stopped.”
