Aaron Marcu

Senior Counsel, Freshfields US LLP / Freshfields

Aaron Marcu began his legal career as a federal prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District in Manhattan, prosecuting mobsters and insider traders.  In private practice, he has championed pro bono legal services for the poor and brought lawsuits to protect human rights of the victimized.  Mr. Marcu represented a class of Bosnian and Muslim survivors of Serbian genocide and sexual violence in the late 1990s.  More recently, he and his Freshfields colleagues provided pro bono assistance to help shut down Craigslist’s “adult services” ads, filed amicus briefs to help hold accountable the sex-trafficking website Backpage.com, and helped facilitate the passage of the Fight Online Sex Trafficking Act and the Stop Enabling Sex Traffickers Act.  He is now Senior Counsel at Freshfields, where he focuses on white-collar criminal and regulatory enforcement defense, internal investigations, and high-profile pro bono matters, including gun-violence-prevention amicus work.
