Survivor of Sex Trafficking
Tina was trafficked while trying to earn money to support her son who was studying abroad and had health problems. Tina’s boss forced her to provide sexual services, by threatening to jeopardize her family’s well-being by reporting her to immigration authorities. Tina escaped her trafficker with the assistance of law enforcement and is now pursuing a new career while advocating for improved laws in New York State.
“When I first came to America, without knowing any English or the law, I did something that brought me huge humiliation. Thankfully I got a lot of help from many service providers and now I have overcome many barriers and I even learned how to ask for help from the City of New York. I have seen many survivors had similar barriers. It becomes part of my duty to help them out of this situation.”
